Amazon.com: Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 provides an integrated solution for managing your time and information, connecting across boundaries, and remaining in control of the information that reaches you. By delivering innovations you can use to quickly search your communications, organize your work, and better share your information with others, this software keeps you connected and up to date, at work dealing with colleagues and customers, or at home corresponding with friends and family.

Office Outlook 2007 provides an integrated solution to help you better manage your time and information. View larger.
Keep Better Track of Your Daily Priorities
Outlook 2007 now features a re-designed interface within the authoring experience, making composing, formatting, and acting on e-mail an easier and more intuitive experience. Specifically, all of the rich features and capabilities of Outlook 2007 are now accessible and easy-to-find within the message. For instance, you can use the To-Do Bar--which gives you a consolidated view of your calendar, upcoming appointments, tasks, and flagged mail--to organize your day and manage your priorities.

Manage Your Time and Information
Outlook 2007 gives you a wide variety of time-saving options, including Instant Search to help you quickly locate all the information you're looking for right from within the Outlook 2007 interface. Not only can you search by keyword through your information, but Instant Search also looks for those keywords within your e-mail attachments. For more directed search results, the Instant Search pane provides helpful criteria to narrow your entry.

Calendar overlay view makes it easy to navigate your personal calendar and your team calendar at the same time. View larger.
Visually Identify Information
Using Outlook 2007 Color Categories, you can easily personalize and add categories to any type of information. Color Categories give you an easy, visual way to distinguish items from one another, so it's a snap to organize your data and search your information. Preview attachments in one click with Attachment Preview and avoid having to re-send attachments repeatedly.

Connect Across Boundaries
Outlook 2007 lets you share all types of information with coworkers, customers, friends, and family. First, you can create and subscribe to Internet calendars (which provide a way to view and remain up to date on industry events) or personal interest calendars and schedules. Then, send your calendar information to anyone with calendar snapshots, an HTML representation of your calendar that lets you share this information with anyone. Or you can publish your Internet calendar to Microsoft Office Online. Using Microsoft Passport credentials, you can then invite a group of your coworkers, customers, friends, or family to view and work with your calendar so that everyone has the latest information.

Enjoy Full Integration with Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Technology
With Outlook 2007, you can fully interact with information stored in Windows SharePoint Services technology anywhere, anytime, and connect Windows SharePoint Services calendars, documents, contacts, or tasks. Once you've done so, you'll enjoy full editing capabilities, so that any changes you make to the information stored in Outlook 2007 can be reflected in the server version.

Increased Functionality and Collaboration
You also have the option of enjoying increased functionality and collaboration with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. Using Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 in conjunction results in increased collaboration capabilities and security enhancements. Exchange Server 2007 provides the latest in dynamic mailbox connections, unified messaging features, and improved protection from junk e-mail.

Use Instant Search to locate the information you want within an integrated, familiar interface. View larger.
You can also send text messages from Outlook with one easy click, thanks to Outlook Mobile Service, a feature that allows you to send and receive text and picture messages between Outlook 2007 and any mobile phone. Outlook Mobile Service also enables you to forward Outlook e-mail messages, contacts, appointments, and tasks to yourself or other people as text messages. You can even set Outlook 2007 to automatically send e-mail messages, reminders, and your daily calendar as text messages right to your mobile phone.

Work With RSS Feeds
You can now fully subscribe to and interact with Really Simple Syndication (RSS) Feeds right from Outlook 2007, the most natural place to manage this kind of information. It's easy to get started adding RSS Feeds using the RSS Subscriptions home page within Outlook 2007.

Electronic Business Cards
Outlook 2007 lets you customize and share electronic business cards so you can create, customize, and share your information with customers, clients, or friends. Effortlessly add photos, company logos, or other personal information to your card so that the recipients have an easy way to identify and remember you and your business.

Anti-phishing capabilities in Office Outlook 2007 warn you about potentially threatening content right from within the e-mail message. View larger.
Improved E-Mail Control and Protection
Outlook 2007 helps you control your information while keeping you safer from junk mail and malicious sites. The junk e-mail filter, introduced in Outlook 2003, helps prevent junk e-mail messages from cluttering your Inbox. Outlook 2007 also features new anti-phishing features that disable threatening links and warn you about possibly malicious or phishing content within an e-mail message. For additional protection and security, Exchange Server 2007 acts as the first scan on incoming e-mail, determines the legitimacy of the e-mail message, and if applicable, disables links or URLs present in the e-mail message to help protect users.

Control Distribution of Sensitive Work
Help protect your company assets by preventing recipients from forwarding, copying, or printing important e-mail messages by using information rights management (IRM) functionality. You can even specify an expiration date for the message, after which it cannot be viewed or otherwise acted upon. (IRM functionality requires Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or later running Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services).

Maintain Compliance With Managed E-mail Folders
Exchange Server 2007 offers managed e-mail folders, a new approach to document retention, archiving, and regulatory compliance. You'll be able to see and interact with these folders just like any other mail folder, but the messages stored within them gain retention, archive, and expiration policies defined by the administrator. With managed e-mail folders, users and administrators can easily comply with various forms of external regulation and internal company policies regarding message retention.

Outlook 2007 E-mail Postmark
The Outlook 2007 E-mail Postmark helps ensure that e-mail reaching your inbox is legitimate and that e-mail you send will be trusted by the recipient's client. Creating mail with E-mail Postmark uses new technology that Microsoft has developed as part of the ongoing effort to curb junk mail. This technology asks the sender's computer to perform a computation or puzzle, and then assigns this work as a token of legitimacy to the e-mail message. These e-mail postmarks are designed to make it very time-consuming and technologically detrimental for users to send mass e-mail like spam, yet they do not change the user experience of sending e-mail.

Cosmetic Makeover

by Scotty 2007-02-06, 80 people found this review helpful
The new version of Outlook is VERY similar to the previous version. Cosmetics are neater, but wholesale revamping of the user interface that took place in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint missed this version. Usability is good, and I hope that security is improved, but I see no "burning" need to upgrade to the new version.

Caveat Emptor!!!!!!

Potential buyers need to know--and Microsoft will NOT tell them--that Office 2007 products, including Outlook, do not exist side-by-side happily with older versions. For example, if you upgrade one Office product, such as Outlook, everytime you start an older Office program, such as Word 2003, it will "reinstall" itself. Then, when you start Outlook 2007, it will "reinstall" itself, etc. Furthermore, if you install an Office 2007 suite that does not include Outlook, it will be impossible to install an older version of Outlook.

Works great side by side with Office 2003

by RJL 2007-05-20, 73 people found this review helpful
Better interface than Outlook 2003. Cleaner with a nicer calendar. I installed Outlook 2007 and OneNote 2007 as stand-alone Office Upgrades alongside an Office 2003 install. No problems. I had seen reviews where other users say a reinstall screen pops up everytime they switch between 2003 and 2007 products. That has not happened with my install.

Outlook 2007 doesn't live up to expectations

by C. Fairweather 2008-04-20, 25 people found this review helpful
I have used and loved Outlook for many years, along with the rest of the Office suite. To get up to date, I just bought the home & student Office suite 07 sans Outlook and bought Outlook 07 separately (thinking $200 total was better than $400). Fine - except this Outlook doesn't hook up with the suite, won't let me set default fonts, and is driving me nuts. I sometimes receive a message in white font on white and can't read it until I hit forward to put it into a message whose font I can change so I can finally see it. I looked it up on Microsoft. It's designed to act this way. Thumbs down.

OUTLOOK 2007 INCOMPATIBLE WITH OFFICE 2003

by Bfndesign 2007-09-17, 25 people found this review helpful
Installing stand alone Outlook 2007 will corrupt your Office 2003 suite. Tech support will advise you to erase the components of your damaged 2003 in order to install Outlook 2007, promising to send you a 2003 replacement disk if you don't have your old disk. By attempting to install Outlook 2007, you will lose your entire 2003 and can only obtain a replacement disk for an additional $25.
But it gets worse. If your system came pre-installed, they won't send you a replacement disk; they'll refer you to your computer manufacturer. Ever tried to get a disk from Compaq?? Or Dell? Or Best Buy?
BEWARE OF OUTLOOK 2007!!

Version Warning - No CRM

by Leonard Leichnitz 2007-06-18, 21 people found this review helpful
This was the only Outlook 2007 version listed for sale on Amazon, so I ordered it. Found that it does not have Customer Relationship Management (which MS refers to in Outlook as Business Contact Management). I have since found that BCM probably would have been a useful tool in managing my 1500+ contacts. So if that is important to you, order "Outlook 2007 with BCM" from a vendor that offers that version. Amazon should state somewhere in the product description that this version does NOT have BCM.

Change for change's sake?

I have been a satisfied user of Outlook 2000 since it came out. I bought Outlook 2007 for my wife, since we switched from Comcast to Qwest broadband. As it turns out the Qwest sub-account emails cannot be set up to send mail using SMTP protocol (can you believe it?) So we were forced to upgrade since you can set up Outlook 2007 to do http email. After numerous tries to install it and having the install abort every time, I read reviews on-line and discovered that you actually have to uninstall the entire Office 2000 suite before you can load Outlook 2007. Now that sounds like the evil empire Microsoft market development team finding a sneaky way to make you have to go and upgrade everything! The diabolical fiends at Microsoft! Fortunately I had purchased Office Home and Student and Outlook in a bundle package, since I needed to upgrade my copy of Excel Office 2000 (another fun MS story...) Once installed, it works fine, and is oh-so-pretty with colors and neat new colorful wonderful, exciting, thrilling, and fancy things! Oh My!
The search feature thing is irritating and slows down performance while it is out gathering eggs on-line, or whatever it is doing that you don't have a clue about, yet is hogging your resources. Now I am afraid to try to install Outlook 2007 on my machine, and since Outlook 2000 is working fine, I figure I'll wait until Microsoft figures out a way to make it quit working with a "security patch" that will kill it dead : )

Had to update due to Vista, happy with Outlook, not happy with Microsoft

by T. Sarpa 2007-12-17, 19 people found this review helpful
I was using Outlook 2003 and was content to keep doing so, but it and Vista did not completely get along. It would not remember my password and forced me to log on every time. Not a huge deal but annoying. The final straw was that I upgraded to Publisher 2007 and the email creation program required me to use Outlook 2007 as the mail program. This kind of thing irritates me - forcing me to purchase new products when the older one works fine. There is a lot of talk about this on every product web site. My take is that I understand inter-operability but when you make your own software obsolete, the marketing and PR problems you create eliminate all good will you have created with the new product offering. If Microsoft would offer truly updated and "must have" new programs, people would buy them without being forced too. Instead they offer warmed over "upgrades" that, for the average user offer nothing different except a few new colors and interfaces. I am strongly considering purchasing all new Apple equipment and leaving the PC world behind. Yeah, the initial buy in is expensive($1200 for a laptop instead of $600) but after all the upgrades and other changes you need to make with Vista, what's the difference?

The outlook 2007 program is fine. It has all the features I need and some bright new colors to boot. No complaint except that I didn't need it until I was forced to buy it.

Barely no visual changes, but great ones

by Fabiano Ferreira 2007-04-10, 22 people found this review helpful
Outlook 2007 did not carry all the fancy visual changes that other applications from the 2007 suite did (e.g. Word, Excel...), but the changes were quite awesome.
First, it now has a sidebar with your tasks, a calendar and TO DOs...
When you are on the calendar tab, you will notice a beter organization and, on the bottom, there will be the tasks due each day.
Integration with other calendar tools and online schedules is much better.
Also, it is much better integrated with Windows Mobile.

If you buy Office 2007 Home and Student, don't forget to buy at least one copy of this Outlook because it is not in there and it is necessary for synching your Windows Mobile device.

PROBLEMS!

by D. Mckay Stewart 2007-02-12, 25 people found this review helpful
Oh my gosh what a pain in the arse. It says on installation that there's an option to keep all of your older versions of Office software but it apparently DELETES Microsoft Outlook XP Pro entirely. This was the free trial software from Microsoft's website.

This wouldn't be so much of a problem except that now I can't create new emails or reply to emails. I've been on hold with Microsoft Customer Support and was misrouted to support for Excel so I just wasted nearly 45 minutes.

Microsoft is a DISASTER. Can't live with em, can't live without em.

I actually purchased Outlook 2007 from amazon.com but I'm wondering if it was a mistake...

Oh, and if you have a dual-monitor system the new Office 2007 software might not work with some of the extremely practical software features of your video card (switch monitor, single-monitor maximize etc.).
